I have been lucky enough to be working in a different county every week for the last few weeks. Selina Lake and I have been photographing her new book ‘Homespun Style’. We’ve been in Denmark, Sweden and Germany.
The week before that I was in Paris working and this week I have been in the South of France with Hans Blomquist shooting his first book which I think is going to be amazing. http://hansblomquist.com
All my friends seem to think it’s a glamorous time I am having and I thought it might be interesting to highlight the experience.
I was away for 3 days. Day One and I had to wake up at 3.45am to get a plane at 6am from the fabulous Luton Airport leaving behind my precious children and lugging incredibly heavy bags on my own to arrive in Nimes and go straight to work. I was lucky enough to stay in the really beautiful La Maison D’Ulysse http://www.lamaisondulysse.com but in truth I never really did much there other than sleep briefly and dive into their pool for 5 mins and think how lovely it would be to go back there with my family on holiday. Day 2 with another 6 am start we drove to Carcassonne and finally our last day was another 6am start to be in Arles where we wanted to shoot 2 locations by 2 pm as I needed to be at Marseille airport for 4pm to get my flight back home in order to make my son’s tea for his last day at junior school on the Friday…….phew! A lot of coffee was drunk and my trousers felt looser.
We shot the most beautiful and unusual locations, did over a 1000km in 3 days including the last part, a nightmare journey with a cab driver who kept falling asleep save me trying to speak French to keep him awake…mmm…. I don’t speak a word of it!! It always feels like a total privilege to be able to see these wonderful places and have a chance to capture them….I normally go home feeling like I want to move house….but the squeals as I arrive home with a bar of Toblerone makes me the most happy.
